Lavendin Oil
Lavendin plant is a cross made between true lavender (Lavandula Angustifolia) and spike lavender (Lavender Spica). The oil extracted from this crossed flower heads is known as Lavendin oil. This plant generally grows at lower altitudes of 400 to 600 meters. Lavendin is a member of the Lamiaceae plant family. This hybrid plant was initially developed in 1900. It is extensively cultivated in France. Lavendin is a larger plant than the original lavender plant and is expected with a life span of approximately 10 years. It has a woody stem and attractive bluish-green foliage. This multi-stemmed evergreen shrub grows up to a maximum height of 24 inches tall and 35 inches wide. Lavendin plant bears wonderful spikes of appealing flowers rising above the leaves. The Lavendin flowers are blue or gray in color.
Lavendin oil is extracted from the fresh Lavendin flowers by steam distillation method. This oil has a sweet, herbaceous, minty, floral and fresh aroma. It is clear with a tinge of yellow and has a thin consistency. Lavendin oil has a smell that is similar to menthol with a more camphoraceous scent. This oil blends well with eucalyptus oil, sweet basil oil, ginger oil, lemon oil, pine oil, bergamot oil, peppermint oil, turmeric oil, vetiver oil, citronella oil, clary sage oil, jasmine oil, cinnamon oil, rosemary oil, patchouli oil and frankincense oil.

Lavendin plant is easier to grow when compared with true Lavender. This plant prefers full sunlight and well-drained soil. It is a drought-resistant plant. Lavendin oil contains lavandulol, linalool, camphor, linalyl acetate, cineole, camphor, camphene, borneol, caryophyllene, ocimene, bornyl acetate, terpinene, limonene and dipentene. This oil has antispasmodic, anti-depressant, anti-infectious, anti-inflammatory, expectorant, hypotensive, cardiotonic, anticoagulant, cicatrisant, nervine, vulnerary, tonic and fungicide properties.
